Diversity and Inclusion in STEM

Working in the field of education can feel a lot like playing Scrabble. There’s
STEM, DEI, IEPs, 504s, MTSS, SEL, SPED, SST, ELA, CCSS, NGSS—you get the
idea. The good news is that we can help you make sense of a handful of the
commonly used, but not always commonly understood, educational acronyms.
In this course, educators will learn what DEI stands for, why it matters inside the
classroom and out, and how we can become change agents for the future.
Scientists with unique-lived experiences have infused their own work with

Cognitive Development of the Brain

Educators design lessons, units, and learning around brain-based development,
taking into account how students learn differently as they age, grow, and
mature. People progress through cognitive development stages during which
their learning, mental capabilities, and cognitive processes change and adapt.
STEM creates an ideal environment for students to achieve key milestones by
providing opportunities to improve creativity, communication, collaboration,
flexibility, active listening, as well as giving and receiving constructive feedback.
As we explore three primary windows of cognitive development, we’ll discuss
the structure of the brain and how to translate what we know about cognitive
development into classroom practice.
